Dear Beth,

Sometimes I think when we put so much effort into telling young ladies how beautiful they are that is seems that it is the most important thing about being a woman. I disagree. There is character, intelligence, personality, God-given gifts- all of which a human is merely a caricature without, to me you do have beauty, But you must be able to recognize this without someone telling you. You will eventually come to be comfortable "in your own skin", accepting your imperfections and recognizing your strengths (without becoming vain). That will be the day you are free to accept reality and forget about the distorted and selfish ideas of others.
